Democracy Video Player Provides 'TiVo For Web Video'

Non-profit group Participatory Culture Foundation on Wednesday introduced Democracy, an open source Internet TV system that uses RSS, Firefox and BitTorrent technologies to create "TiVo for Web video." The free Democracy Player is available now for Mac, Windows and Linux.

"The days of waiting for Internet video to buffer and watching it in a tiny box are over," Participatory Culture Foundation co-founder Nicholas Reville said in a statement. "With Democracy, internet video is ready to play when you want to watch it, like TiVo, and it fills the entire screen."

The Democracy system also includes software for publishing video content, known as Broadcast Machine, and Video Bomb, a community-rated, shareable guide of Internet video.
