FileMaker Plug-In Adds "Transcode" Feature To Databases

24U has released a new plug-in for FileMaker Pro, Transcoding Plug-in 1.0. The new plug-in allows FileMaker developers to have their databases perform "transcode" commands on information, allowing it to be converted from one character set to another. According to 24U:

24U s.r.o. introduces 24U Transcoding Plug-In 1.0 for FileMaker Pro versions 4.0 through 5.5, working with Mac OS, Mac OS X, and Windows.

24U Transcoding Plug-In 1.0 is a FileMaker Pro plug-in, which allows your databases to "transcode" a text in several ways. With the "Transcode" function, you can translate any text from one charset into another, using either supplied or your own transcoding table. Another functions convert the text and decimal numbers into a hexadecimal form, and vice versa.

24U Transcoding Plug-In 1.0 allows FileMaker Pro developers to create cross-platform solutions even if they are using non-roman languages. This is not possible with a standard FileMaker Pro installation. If you need to use Slavic languages, such as Czech or Russian, you no longer need to limit your solutions to a single platform.Likewise you may utilize this plug-in for conversion of your text into a desired encoding before exporting your database to the web.

24U Transcoding Plug-In is also the first cross-platform product ever made as FAT Binary for classic Mac OS, Mac OS X, and Windows.

It does not matter what operating system you are using. The same binary works with FileMaker Pro 4.0 through 5.5 on Mac OS 7, 8, 9, and Mac OS X, as well as on Windows 95, 98, ME, NT, and 2000.

The Transcoding Plug-in 1.0 is available for US$19. You can find more information at the 24U Web site.
