Finally: Washable Mice Are Here!

Unotron announced Monday a line of optical mice that are washable. The companyis washable keyboards, mice, and media readers are aimed at the healthcare industry, and other industries where the ability to easily wash and/or sanitize input devices is important. The mouse product line comes with a scrollwheel, the Unotron ScrollSeal Washable Optical 3-button Mouse, and as a three-button mouse, the Unotron SteriMax Washable Optical 3-button Mouse.

The new mice meet IP66 and NEMA 4X standards, standards required by some industries. These are chorded products, and feature a rubberized finish in gray or black.

"Washable" means that they can be washed, immersed, and disinfected by commercial-grade and anti-bacterial agents.

The companyis Web site lists the mice as being Windows-compatible only, but a company spokesperson confirmed with The Mac Observer that they will work with Mac OS X, a platform used more often in individual practices and medium sized practices, as opposed to hospital settings. The same is true for Unotronis washable keyboards.

The Unotron ScrollSeal Washable Optical 3-button Mouse is priced at US$49, and the Unotron SteriMax Washable Optical 3-button Mouse is priced at $69.
