GigaDesigns Pushes G4 Upgrades to 1.8GHz

Giga Designs announced Thursday the worldis fastest G4 processor upgrades, utilizing PowerPC 7447A processors operating at 1.8GHz in single- and dual-processor configurations.

The single-processor G-celerator AGP 7A Series is compatible with "Sawtooth" Power Mac G4 systems up to "Quicksilver 2002" Power Mac G4s, including the Power Mac G4 Cube. The Freescale (formerly Motorola) G4 processor is rated at 1.42GHz, but has been safely tested at 1.8GHz in its cards, Giga Designs said. It is available now for $449. The upgrade for the Power Mac G4 Cube includes a fan for operation at 1.8GHz, or the card can be down-clocked to 1.6GHz for operation without a fan.

The dual-processor G-celerator AGP 7A Series upgrades, shipping in March, also utilizes 1.42GHz-rated processors running at 1.8GHz. It will sell for $699. A version for the Power Mac G4 Cube, down-clocked to 1.6GHz to support the system, includes a low-speed fan kit (necessary for the dual processors) as well as Giga Designsi Cube VRM architecture, supporting allowing the Cube to support faster video cards or other upgrades. The Cube-compatible upgrade will cost $759.

All Giga Designs upgrades carry a three year limited warranty, as well as a copy of Micromatis Drive 10 utility.
