Hostal Update From Northern Softworks

Northern Softworks has released an update for Hostal, bringing it to version 1.2.2. Hostal is a formatted host file database designed to improve Internet speeds. The update features improved Apple Software Updates security and maping. According to Northern Softworks:

Northern Softworks today announced the release of version 1.2.2 of Hostal, its shareware Hosts file database and editor.

Before the DNS system, IP address mapping was done locally at each computer by means of a specially formatted host file. Today the host file goes virtually unused even though most operating systems still support them. A properly designed and formatted hosts file can not only help speed up the web surfing experience, but can allow simple, effective content filtering as well.

This version adds menu options to map or block Apple Software Updates. This feature can be used to prevent problems with the security issues with Appleis Software Updater.

You can find more information about the Hostal update at the Northern Softworks Web site. Hostal 1.2.2 is available for US$6.95.
