OS X users were treated to a surprise today when the built in Software Update utility notified them that there is a new version of Internet Explorer available. IE 5.1.1 weighs in as a 7.8MB download and is available immediately via the Software Update panel in OS Xis System Preferences.
One machine in The Mac Observer labs needed a log out/log in process to see the new version, while others did not require that procedure. If your Internet Explorer folder appears empty after applying the update, loging out and then in again should correctly display the new version.
There are currently no details available on the new release at either the Apple or Microsoft Web sites, but when we find more information we will certainly let you know.
