Japanese Trade Ministry Orders Laptop Battery Investigation

Japanis trade ministry has told Sony and Dell that they must investigate the problems plaguing the 4.1 million laptop batteries recalled last week and issue a report, or face a fine. The companies have until the end of August to comply, according to an Associated Press story.

The ministry pointed to two incidents where the batteries in Dell laptops imported to Japan overheated and caught fire. Sonyis own Vaio laptops donit use the same batteries and thus arenit affected.
