Macrovision Brings SafeDisc Encryption To The Mac Platform

Macrovision Corporation has released SafeDisc for Mac users. SafeDisc is a copy protection utility designed for encrypting CD-ROMs to prevent duplication. The app features anti-hacking measures and digital signature encryption. According to Macrovision:

Macrovision Corporation, the world’s leading provider of digital rights management (“DRM”) and copy protection technologies, today announced the availability of SafeDisc® for Mac OS X. Macrovision has now completed the porting of its SafeDisc and SafeCast™ “DRM” product suite to the Mac OS X environment.

SafeDisc is a software-based solution that does not require any changes to the publisher’s application code and is compatible with standard Mac environments and CD-ROM hardware.

It is comprised of authenticating digital signatures embedded on the optical disc, an encryption wrapper, and various anti-hacking technologies that secure the optical disc executable. The patented SafeDisc digital signatures are added to each original disc during the mastering/replication process and prevent copying by standard CD-R drives.
