Appleis new MobileMe Web service is down, with the company saying that transitioning from .Mac to MobileMe is taking longer than expected. MobileMe had made brief appearances in the last few days, only to disappear again as swiftly as it appeared in the first place.
Currently, Appleis .Mac home page redirects to a maintenance page with the message, "The MobileMe transition is underway but is taking longer than expected. While core services such as desktop mail, iDisk and sync are available, the new MobileMe web applications are not yet online. Thank you for your patience as we complete the upgrade."
The MobileMe.com home page redirects to the serviceis promotional page at Appleis domain.
MobileMe is Appleis revamped and expanded replacement for its .Mac service, which was first launched as a free service called iTools in 2000, and then changed into a subscription service called .Mac in 2002.
At the 2008 World Wide Developer Conference, the company announced the .Mac would be renamed MobileMe, and focus more strongly on offering Web-based computing tools and a comprehensive synching service aimed at all of your Apple devices.
