QuickerTek on Monday introduced a new 27dBm transceiver for 17-inch iMac G5 computers, enabling users to pick up wireless routers from up to a mile away. The company noted that while the RF power inside the iMac is little more than 30 milliwatts on average because of its internal shielding, this external antenna offer 500 milliwatts.
The transceiver connects to the AirPort card inside the computer, with the antenna clipped to the case. Pricing is US$200. The transceiver is compatible with 802.11g and 802.11b routers and works with OS 9.x and Mac OS X v10.x.
