OS X Icons Are Now A Snap To Create

Kinetic Creations has updated their Photoshop plug-in that allows users to easily create Mac OS icons. Export Icon allows users to save Photoshop files in any Mac OS supported icon file format, including the new larger sized OS X icons. According to Kinetic Creations:

Kinetic Creations, Inc. releases Export Icon version 1.5, an update to theAdobe Photoshop plug-in that allows users to export Photoshop imagesdirectly as Mac OS icons.

The Export Icon plug-in enhances Adobe Photoshop by allowing direct exportof Photoshop images to MacOS custom icon files. The plug-in creates customicons directly from Photoshop images, using the imageis pixel data tocreate 4, 8 and 32 bit icons of every MacOS supported size including OS Xisnew Huge and Thumbnail sizes. In addition, the imageis transparencyinformation is used to create the iconis 1 and 8 bit masks. Export Iconcreates traditional icon resources (iicl4i, iicl8i, etc.) as well asAppleis new iicnsi resource which contains all the separate icon data in asingle resource. Export Icon optionally copies the data from this iicnsiresource to the data fork of the icon file for use in MacOS X. Export Icon1.5 is a free upgrade for registered users of any earlier version andincorporates the following changes:

  • Added support for "Huge" (128x128 pixel) and "Thumbnail" (48x48 pixel)icons
  • Fixed a crashing bug in the previously released 1.5 public beta version
