Other World Computing (OWC) on Thursday added the Elite-AL Pro series of hard drives to its line of Mercury Elite external storage products. Designed to match the aluminum style used by Apple in its Power Mac G5, newer Cinema Displays and other products, the new drives are available in four models: FireWire 400/USB 2.0 drives in 80GB to 400GB capacities with prices starting at US$129.99; FireWire 800/400 drives (80GB-400GB from $149.99); FireWire 800/400, USB 2.0 drives (80GB-400GB from $159.99); and FireWire 800/400 RAID drives (160GB-800GB from $249.99).
All of the new OWC drives include copies of Dantz/EMC Retrospect Backup and Intech Hard Disk SpeedTools software. They require Mac OS X v10.1 or higher; FireWire 800 connectivity requires v10.2.8 or higher. OWC covers all of them with two-year warranties.
