PodBrix to Sell LEGO Playset Based on '1984' Ad

At 9:00 PM EST on Wednesday, Aug. 2, PodBrix will begin selling a LEGO playset based on Appleis famous "1984" Macintosh commercial that aired during the 1984 Super Bowl. Directed by Ridley Scott, the ad depicted a totalitarian future in which an audience wearing gray clothing watches a rant by a Big Brother-like authority figure. A runner with a sledgehammer, police in riot gear in hot pursuit, destroys the screen. The ad then displays text, also read by an announcer, explaining the impending release of the new Macintosh computer.

The playset, which has a 100-unit run and sells for US$198.99, features over 80 parts, as well as a static LED backlit movie screen that requires three AA batteries. "Each unit is hand-crafted to order and requires some simple assembly," PodBrix says on its Web site.
