Sonnet Technologies on Thursday debuted its new Encore/STG4 Duet 1.7GHz dual processor upgrade, which is compatible with most "Sawtooth" Power Mac G4 computers, including the AGP Graphics, Gigabit Ethernet, Digital Audio and QuickSilver models. At US$599.95, itis the same price as the 1.3GHz dual processor upgrade it replaces.
Like Sonnetis other G4 upgrades, the new one uses a pair of processors from Motorola spin-off Freescale Semiconductor and features 512KB of L2 cache, along with a factory-installed heat sink. It requires Mac OS 9.2 or Mac OS X v10.3.5 or higher. Sonnet also sells single processor G4 upgrades that run as fast as 1.8GHz.
