Sonnet Intros New Tempo-X eSATA Card, Adds Hot-Swap to Line

Irvine, Calif.-based Sonnet Technologies on Thursday made two changes to its line of Tempo-X Serial ATA PCI-X host cards: the introduction of the new Tempo-X eSATA 4+4 Eight-Port Serial ATA PCI-X host controller and the addition of hot-swap functionality to the entire line of Tempo-X PCI-X cards. Customers who have already purchased Tempo-X products can download a firmware update.

The new product replaces Sonnetis Tempo-X SATA 4+4 and includes such new features as eSATA connectors in the external ports, drive activity LEDs and the aforementioned hot-swap capability. Like its predecessor, the Tempo-X eSATA offers four internal and four external ports. Users can employ the new card to connect up to eight hard drives totaling up to 4TB of storage and configure them in a RAID 0 or RAID 1 array.

The Tempo-X eSATA 4+4 comes with two 22-inch internal SATA cables and two legacy-to-SATA power cable adapters. It sells for US$199.95 and is compatible with Power Mac G3 Blue & White, G4 (except the Cube) and G5 computers. Mac OS X v10.2 or higher is required.
