Allume Systems Inc. on Tuesday released StuffIt Deluxe 10, which offers the ability to compress JPEG files up to 30% without sacrificing image quality. Other additions include support for Mac OS X v10.4is Automator and Spotlight features, the ability to preview archived JPEG files without decompressing the file first and StuffIt SEA Maker, a new tool that enables users to create self-extracting packages with spash screens, text dialogs and control over where files are expanded on the recipientis computer.
StuffIt Deluxe 10 also offers a new restore mode that automatically expands the contents of an archive created with Archive Assistant to the hard drive location from which they were drawn. Finally, Allume has improved StuffItis compression algorithm as well as support for .Mac, adding the ability to create drop boxes for sending and retrieving files to and from an iDisk.
Upgrades from earlier versions of StuffIt Deluxe cost US$29.99 and are available through March 31, 2006. The full software is $79.99. Mac OS X v10.3 is required, although support for Spotlight and Automator requires v10.4.
