VMware announced the immediate availability of VMware Fusion 1.1 on Monday. The updated version of the desktop virtualization application added support for Mac OS X 10.5, Unity, and more.
VMware Fusion 1.1 also improved support for Microsoft Windows 3D graphics with experimental support for DirectX 9.0. While the update does support DirectX 3D graphics, it does not yet support shaders.
The update supports using Windows Vista Boot Camp partitions as virtual machines, added find and search support for Windows Start menu items, and can display the Windows Start menu and task bar via Unity. VMware also released a beta version of its VMware Importer application that lets Fusion users import Parallels 2.5 and 3.0 virtual systems.
VMware Fusion 1.1 is priced starting at US$59.99. The update and VMware Importer are free for version 1.0 users.
