F or those of you who werenit satisfied with the number of images from Virginia Techis G5 cluster previously available, your wait is over. As Observer Rich Hudgins kindly pointed out to us, Virginia Techis G5 cluster site has been restored, complete with hundreds of images separated into seventeen categories. Everything from initial meetings to the final product is covered.
Virginia Techis project was to turn 1100 Power Mac G5s into a clustered supercomputer. The university chose 1100 dual processor G5s, making for 2200 processors and a US$5.2 million supercomputer. The university hopes to get it ranked in the Top 5 of supercomputers, even though the price tag is very small compared to other supercomputers, offering Apple and the university alike a big coup.
Virginia Tech had originally published some images from the project, but those images were soon pulled, possibly because the server was overrun by geeks and techphiles wanting to see them.
