Apple Fixes 3 Bugs with AirPort Base Station Firmware Update 7.6.4

| Product News

AirPortApple released AirPort Base Station Firmware Update 7.6.4 on Tuesday, a maintenance release for the company's line of Wi-Fi routers that squashes three bugs. One affects Apple's Time Capsule models, another deals with IPv6 issues, and a third fixes iOS device connectivity.

Apple's patch notes:

This update is available for all Apple 802.11n Wi-Fi base stations including AirPort Express, AirPort Extreme, and AirPort Time Capsule. It contains fixes that:

  • Resolve an issue that may cause AirPort Time Capsule to report that the backup disk is in use
  • Resolve an issue that may cause an IPv6 Tunnel error
  • Resolve an issue that may intermittently cause a loss in Wi-Fi connectivity with iOS devices

Note: This firmware update is for all 802.11n AirPort base stations.

As noted by BurmaYank in the comments below, you can find the update in AirPort Utility on your Mac. The update may show up immediately in the form of a dialog box. If not, you can click Edit within AirPort Utility and look for the Update button.

This Firmware Update v.7.6.4 for our 802.11n AirPort Extreme base station was NOT available for our system at the Mac App Store.

The way I DID find and download/install it was to open the Airport Utility (v.6.3.1), and then click on the AirPort Extreme icon to open the “Edit” function, where I could then click on the “Update” button.

Thanks, BY. I updated the story with the proper directions.

My new 11ac Extreme came with Firmware 7.7.1.

It has made my Airport Extreme unstable. I am constantly cycling into and out of link to the internet at random intervals for random lengths of time.

@Fastflyer- roll back to 7.6.1 which i think is 2 versions back since 7.6.3 is also unstable.
