Apple Stores to Open at 8AM Nov 1 for iPad Air Launch

Apple will be opening its brick and mortar retail stores at 8AM local time on Friday, November 1, for the launch of the new iPad Air. The company hasn't said yet when online orders will begin, but it's a safe bet that will start at 12:01AM pacific time on November 1.

The new iPad models include Apple's 64-bit A7 processor, the M7 motion coprocessor, and improved graphics and cameras. Both ship with iOS 7 pre-installed and include iWork and iLife downloads for free.

The iPad Air takes on the look of the iPad mini, but with a 9.7-inch Retina Display. It weighs 1 pound -- nearly half a pound less than the fourth generation iPad -- and sports stereo speakers. It's available in black and space gray, or white and silver.

The Retina iPad mini screen measures 7.9-inches, and the device specs are essentially the same as the iPad Air. The iPad mini won't be available until later in November. Both are available in 16GB, 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB configurations.

Pricing for the iPad Air starts at US$499, and $399 for the iPad mini.
