Apple Unveils Logic Pro X with Auto Drums, iPad Remote App

Apple announced the immediate availability of Logic Pro X on Tuesday. Logic Pro X is the company's professional audio editing and mixing application for the Mac. The new version includes Drummer for automatically adding drum tracks to your recordings, Flex Pitch, and Logic Remote for controlling Logic Pro from your iPad.

The new Drummer feature works as a virtual drummer that plays along with your recordings with styles such as rock, alternative, and R&B. Apple said the tracks Drummer makes sound realistic and is powered by the performances and sounds from the industry's top session players and recording engineers. Logic Pro X also includes Drum Kit Designer for creating your own custom drum kits.

Flex Pitch lets users edit the pitch of audio recordings.

Logic Pro X also includes a wider selection of synthesizers and keyboards, Arpeggiator to make simple cords sound like complex performances, Bass Amp Designer for playing and recording with vintage and modern bass amp sounds, a larger collection of loops in the Sound Library, and a new interface that gives users the option of seeing a trimmed down set of controls when they don't need to see all of the app's features.

The Logic Remote companion app for the iPad lets users control Logic Pro X to record and mix, and perform instruments wirelessly from the multi-touch display.

Apple also released MainStage 3, which is the live performance companion app for Logic Pro X. The new version sports a redesigned interface, and supports Logic Pro X plug-ins, patches, and smart controls.

Logic Pro X is priced at US$199.99, and MainStage 3 costs $29.99. Both are available for download at Apple's Mac App Store. Logic Remote is a free download at the iOS App Store.
