Apple Announces Pre-Orders for Verizon iPhone

| News

Apple announced Wednesday that the company will begin accepting online pre-orders for Verizon iPhones from existing Verizon customers on Thursday, February 3rd. Everyone else will be able to reserve a Verizon iPhone starting on February 9th for in-store pickup starting on February 10th.

We should examine that verbiage a little more closely: The iPhone 4 makes its official debut on Verizon on February 10th. As with iPhone models released on AT&T in the U.S., Apple is specifying that they will be available on a strict first-come, first-served basis, and the company is in no way promising that every phone reserved on the 9th will actually be available on the 10th.

The same is true for the actual pre-orders that start on February 3rd. Apple said that, “Due to high demand, customer orders will be fulfilled on a first come, first served basis.”

Verizon is also accepting pre-orders at, and Big Red will also have stock on hand for the February 10th rollout.

Why Verizon's iPhone won't be like Verizon's iPhone

That is a good one Bryan.  At first I thought that Apple had produced the rather undiplomatic image, supra, but then I remembered your irreverent wit.

One bad omen - I went to the Verizon iPhone preorder link and the countdown to 3AM requires Flash. Whoops.

I just checked it from my iPhone and no missing Flash plugin icons. Apparently they have a page for mobile devices.

Interesting. I would have thought their site would recognize iPads in a similar way as iPhones.  Did you go to

Hey Ron I just checked again using my iPhone. Your right, I need Flash to view the content. What is interesting is that when I looked closer there was a small Get Flash Player button, that was so tiny on my iPhone that I didn’t notice it. Usually I get that Lego block icon for Flash.

Gotta go to bed, 4:00 AM comes early this time of year.

Thanks a lot Bryan for putting that nightmare image into my brain. I think I am going to be sick now.

I can’t believe I set my alarm for 2:55 AM to buy a cell phone…  I’ll be tired today, but hey, it was worth it!!  Got my confirmation.  I was very surprised that the web site showed absolutely no slow-down at 3 AM - I’m assuming a ton of people on the west coast were reserving iPhones at midnight their time.  Each of the 5 or 6 steps went smoothly and quickly.  Either Verizon was (as promised) well prepared for this, or maybe Bosco is correct - no one wants the Verizon iPhone except for me!!

I hope Verizon publishes some pre-sales figures today…
