Apple’s Game Center, a new feature in iOS 4.1, will bring game-related social networking to the iPhone and iPod touch, assuming you have a compatible device. Luckily for iPod touch owners, most models are supported. iPhone owners, however, are a little more limited.
According to Apple’s Game Center Web page, the iPod touch going back as far as the second generation model are supported, leaving only the original iPod touch out in the cold. Only the iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS, however, are supported, which leaves the iPhone 3G and original iPhone out of the Game Center world.
Apple describes Game Center as an app that “lets you expand your social gaming network.” It includes games users can download, and lets players compete against friends.
Game Center requires iOS 4.1, which will be available some time this week.
