Apple Order Status Down: “Come Back Sunday”

Apple’s order status page was taken down late Friday evening. The company put up a message (below) that said “We are currently updating our systems,” and alerting customers that they will be able to resume using the service on Sunday. The downtime begins as widely circulated rumors have the company revamping its retail stores during the weekend, too.

Apple’s message:

Apple Order Status

Apple is reportedly working on a revamp of some of its retail stores, a revamp that requires an overnight shift for its retail employees Saturday night and training sessions that are supposed to take place on Sunday. To add some extra spice to the speculation, the 10th anniversary of Apple’s first Apple Store location was this week, on May 19th.

The company has not officially announced any changes, any new products, or other issues that might affect its retail operations.

In addition to the “We’ll be back soon” message above, at least portion of Apple’s support site were down late Friday evening. Friend of The Mac Observer Victor Cajiao of the “Typical Mac User Podcast” posted a screenshot of the support site with a similar message.

As of this writing, the support site is once again accessible.

Whether or not the supposed retail changes are related to Apple’s online maintenance work is unknown, of course, but it seems a wise move to keep an eye out for any…surprises.

Thanks to MacStories for the heads up on the the order status page.
