Apple Releases Magic Mouse Software for Leopard & Snow Leopard

Apple released software updates that enable Mac OS X 10.5.8 Leopard and Mac OS X 10.6.1 Snow Leopard to take advantage of the new Magic Mouse in all its glory. It had been thought that the device would be dependent on Mac OS X 10.6.2, but today's updates mean that users can buy and use the Magic Mouse with current versions of both operating systems as soon as it is available as a standalone purchase.

The patch notes for both software updates say simply, " Install this software to take advantage of your Magic Mouse special features."

Apple announced the Magic Mouse Tuesday, October 20th, but initially only made it available with new iMacs that were unveiled the same day. Checks with local Apple Stores late on Tuesday found that they are expected in-store as early as Wednesday, but are still not yet available for individual purchase.

Apple's online Apple Store currently lists them as shipping within 5-7 business days. The Mac Observer will be watching for availability of the device with follow up articles as news develops.
