Apple Store Smash-and-grab Leads to Fatal Shooting

Suspects attempting to break into Apple’s Otay Ranch Town Center Apple Store ended up with more than they bargained for when they found themselves in a shoot out with a security guard. The incident left one suspect dead, and the other two are in police custody.

Otay Ranch Apple Store ShootingPolice arrest suspects in the Otay Ranch Apple Store robbery.

The suspects apparently drove their car through the front windows of the Apple Store around 6:30 AM on Monday, according to KGTV in San Diego. The suspects, two men and a woman, were interrupted by a private security guard that led to the shootout where about 40 rounds were fired.

A second suspect may have been shot as well.

Apple Stores seem to be popular targets for criminals, potentially because the glass store fronts are easy to smash through with cars, and because the merchandise they steal can be easily resold.

Apple hasn’t commented on the incident, nor has the company said if it has any plans to change store security procedures to help cut down on burglaries and robberies.
