App downloads at Apple’s App Store for the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad have climbed up over the 15 billion mark as of Thursday. According to Apple, there are over 425,000 apps available through its online App Store, and over 100,000 of those are native iPad titles.
“In just three years, the revolutionary App Store has grown to become the most exciting and successful software marketplace the world has ever seen,” commented Phil Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing.
App Store: Over 15 Billion Served
The App Store hit the 10 billion download mark about six months ago in January. The online store launched in mid 2008 and hit the billion download mark nine months later, and was at two billion downloads 14 months after launching. Only three months later the App Store hit three billion downloads.
Apple also said that over 200 million iOS devices are in use around the world, and that developers have been paid over $2.5 billion for their App Store sales.
