Appsterdam Launches AltWWDC, a Free Alternative to Apple's WWDC

AppsterdamNews broke Thursday morning that it took all of two minutes to sell out tickets for Apple's World Wide Developer Conference (WWDC). Many developers and others who would want to attend the event were left out in the cold by the insanely fast sellout, but Appsterdam announced on Thursday AltWWDC, a free alternative to the real thing that will be held just down the street from the Moscone Center.

Appsterdam is a, "non-profit meta-organization that provides common ground for all App Makers, regardless of platform, occupation, or business model, in Amsterdam and beyond."

AltWWDC won't have Apple engineers and Apple-developed courses for developers, but it will have presentations by developers and it will provide a venue for app developers to get together.

It is scheduled for June 10th-14th, the same dates as Apple's conference. It will take place at San Francisco State's Downtown Campus at 845 Market St., not far from the Moscone where the real WWDC is being held.

Speakers include Mike Lee, Victor Agreda, Jr., Brett Terpstra, Brent Simmons, Saul Mora, and others. There will be a group breakfast held for those who can't get into the WWDC keynote, and a co-working space with Wi-Fi, coffee, and "peace" will be available on a first-come basis.

Lastly, it's free.
