Autodesk Releases 2011 Versions of Maya, Other Software

Autodesk on Tuesday unveiled at the Game Developers Conference the 2011 editions of Maya and its other 3D creation software aimed at animators, game developers, and others in creative fields.

Maya 2011, which is also compatible with Mac OS X version 10.6 Snow Leopard, features a customizable user interface, enhanced tools for character animation including non-destructive live retargeting, high-performance display of large scenes in the viewport, new 3D editorial capabilities for pre-visualization and virtual production workflows, integrated color management, asset structures for pipeline connectivity and improved rotoscoping.

Autodesk also released Mudbox 2011 and FBX 2011 for Mac OS X.

Not all of its software runs on Mac OS X, but Autodesk says the applications that don’t are supported via Parallels Desktop. The new creativity applications that fall under that heading include 3ds Max 2011, Softimage 2011, and MotionBuilder 2011.
