BBC Planning New iPlayer for iPad

The BBC has been hard at work on a new version of its iPlayer app for the iPad, and hopes to release the app in the next few days. The iPlayer app lets BBC viewers watch shows and listen to radio programs on their iPad for up to seven days after broadcast.

The new iPlayer app will support live TV and radio, access to the complete catch-up program catalog, series stacking, personalized favorites, and an improved user interface.

“Having stuck our toe in the water last year with the iPad (initially, we quickly repurposed our big screen version), this new native app is a significant improvement on the existing experience,” said BBC general manager of future media and technology Daniel Danker.

iPlayer won’t, however, be supported outside of the U.K. — at least for now. The BBC is working on bringing an iPlayer subscription service to the U.S., but hasn’t announced an official launch date yet.
