Comcast iPad/iPhone App Controls Your TV

| Product News

Comcast has released an app for its Xfinity TV service that allows users to control their TV, set their DVR, and view schedules from their iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch. Simply called Xfinity TV, the app allows you to control your Xfinity settop box over a WiFi or 3G connection to the Internet.

In other words, you can use your iPad (or iPhone/iPod touch) to browse listings and change channels from your couch on the iPad’s excellent display. You can also program your DVR on the go (with an Internet connection). All without using a remote.

Hooray! I hope this spurs Verizon to update their useful-but-limited iPhone app. With Verizon FIOS I can schedule recordings and manage DVR storage, but not actually control the box. And it’s limited to one iOS device per account, a limit they claim to be working to remove.

P.S. I’m not a fan of AT&T UVerse’s internet access, but I do like that their iPhone app lets you stream TV to your phone. Or so I’ve heard.

Another app that is worth checking out is the DISH Network app, I work there and the remote access is available on pretty much all smart phones, the iphone and ipad as well as obviously computers and laptops. View live TV and all of your recordings, can even use as a remote.

Verizon just released a new iPad app, different from their iPhone app. This one now acts as a remote control in addition to letting you schedule recordings. Also much easier to pair with the DVR and can pair with more than one iOS device. Yay progress!
