Contacts: What Groups Do They Belong To?

| TMO Quick Tip

It's pretty easy to forget what groups you've added a contact to, especially if you have a lot of contacts and a lot of groups. But there's a simple way to figure it out. All you've gotta do first is select the contact card in question:

Then just hold down Option, and the groups that person is a member of will be highlighted in blue in the sidebar.

…and after.

Neat! And look, this tip hasn't yet turned into one of my incredibly long-winded, overdone, too-silly ones! Must…resist…urge…to keep typing…things…

Whew. That took a lot of effort, people.

Is there a trick to do the opposite?
I want to show all contacts and then select a group to highlight all the contacts in that group.
This would allow me to quickly scan to see if I left out any contacts without going one by one.

Hey brettdog,

As far as I can tell, there isn’t a way to do that. What I’d probably do in that situation is print out just the names of the people in the group. To do so,  select the group from the sidebar and choose File > Print. When the print dialog box opens, click “Show Details” if you see that choice, then make sure “Lists” is chosen under the Style option. Then deselect everything in the Attributes panel and click Print. It’s a bit of a pain, but that’s one way you could handle it!

Hope that helps!

OMG - that’s smart.
