A pair of popular franchises arrived at the App Store this week: Earthworm Jim, in a remake of the classic action game, and Women's Murder Club: Death in Scarlet, an adaptation of the Mac/PC game based on novelist James Patterson's popular Women's Murder Club series.
In Gameloft's Earthworm Jim (US$4.99), players control an ordinary earthworm given extraordinary powers when a suit falls from outer space and lands on him. His goal is to defeat Psy-Crow and Queen Slug-for-a-Butt and rescue Princess What's-Her-Name, making his way through 16 levels spread across 10 environments. A dozen types of enemies and nine bosses stand in his way, but Jim can run, gun, swing from hooks with his head, launch cows, bungee jump, and rocket across the landscape.
I-play's Women's Murder Club ($3.99) takes place in San Francisco, where players investigate a series of murders by visiting 15 unique locations and solving puzzles. Facebook Connect compatibility is included, as is an exclusive audio book featuring the first ten chapters from Mr. Patterson's latest Women's Murder Club book, The 8th Confession.
