First Day iPad Sales Top 300,000

Apple sold over 300,000 iPads on Saturday, the first day the multimedia tablet device was available. The company also said that iPad users downloaded over a million apps from the App Store and over 250,000 ebooks.

“It feels great to have the iPad launched into the world — it’s going to be a game changer,” commented Apple CEO Steve Jobs.

According to Apple, iPad owners averaged about three app downloads and one ebook download within the first few hours of unwrapping their iPad boxes.

Apple unveiled the iPad at a special media event in January, and began taking pre-orders and reservations on March 12. The company began selling the iPad on April 3rd.

The iPad is a multimedia tablet device that runs a version of the iPhone OS. It includes a 9.7-inch multi-touch display, supports most iPhone apps, includes Bluetooth keyboard support, Wi-Fi network connectivity, and and the end of April models with 3G wireless data access will be available, too.
