Apple has once again been named the most admired company by Fortune magazine, and it did so with the highest margin of victory the magazine has ever recorded for a number one - Apple scored a 7.95 on the index system used by the magazine, while number two Google scored a 7.70. To get its list of the Top 50 Most Admired Companies, , Fortune's survey asked businesspeople to vote for the companies that they admired most, from any industry.
"What makes Apple so admired? Product, product, product," the magazine wrote about Apple. "This is the company that changed the way we do everything [...]. Its track record for innovation and fierce consumer loyalty translates into tremendous respect across business' highest ranks."
As noted above, Google was ranked as the number two most admired company, with Berkshire Hathaway, Johnson & Johnson, and Amazon.com rounding up the Top Five. Microsoft came in at 11, IBM at 15, HP at 32, and Sony at 38. Apple's iPhone carrier partner in the U.S., AT&T, came at number 45.
As a non-tech industry side note, Toyota was ranked as the number seven most admired company - Fortune explained that most of the votes were sent in after Toyota's floormat recall was initiated, but, "well before the gas-pedal crisis escalated to epic proportions in January."
