AgileBits, the maker of the popular password management app 1Password, is ready to move beyond auto-filling website logins only in their own iPhone and iPad app and plans to bring that functionality to any app that taps into its API in iOS 8. With 1Password support built into other apps, users will be able to enter their user names and passwords with Touch ID, and AgileBits has a video showing just how seamless the process can be.
The company said in a blog post,
Thanks to Apple's incredible new developer features in iOS 8, third-party apps can let 1Password fill Logins without the user ever leaving the app. Yep, complete with Touch ID for unlocking the vault.
Developers need to grab the 1Password app extension which is available on GitHub to add support to their apps. AgileBits included documentation and some sample code with the download to help make developer's jobs a little easier.
iOS 8 will be more open to developers, which is why AgileBits has been able to build a framework so 1Password's auto-fill feature can work in other apps. iOS 8 will also include an updated Notification Center, support for alternate on screen keyboards, iCloud Drive support, Health Center and Home Kit support, and more.
Apple will release iOS 8 this fall as a free update for the iPhone 4S and newer, iPad 3 and newer, iPad mini, and fifth generation iPod touch and newer as a free download.
