Google Kills YouTube for 2nd Gen Apple TV, Older iOS Devices

Google is dropping support for several devices from its YouTube API, which means that second generation Apple TV owners won't be able to watch cat videos any more. Along with the older Apple TV model, YouTube support for iPhones and iPads running iOS 6, older Google TV versions, and some smart TVs was dropped, too.

The list of home entertainment devices that won't get YouTube support any more includes Sony and Panasonic TVs and Blu-ray players made in 2012 and earlier. According to Google, the devices were dropped from the supported list on April 20 as the new YouTube data API rolled out.

iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch users running iOS 6 can use the YouTube website in Mobile Safari to view videos, but second generation Apple TV owners are out of luck because they don't have a workaround option.
