Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince Game Flies to the Mac

Electronic Arts on Tuesday announced the simultaneous release of its Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince videogame for Mac/PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Nintendo Wii, and other platforms. Based on the upcoming Warner Bros. movie, the game follows Harry as he embarks on his sixth year of studies at Hogwarts, facing the mystery of the Half-Blood Prince's identity, the challenges laid down by a new Potions professor, and more.

The game features a version of Hogwarts reproduced from the blueprints used to build the movie's sets, complete with all the features fans expect, including the ever-changing Great Staircase, the portraits that provide shortcuts to other areas of the grounds, the Quidditch pitch, and more. New features include the ability to move while casting spells, which comes in handy as players try to move up the ranks of the Gryffindor dueling club, as well as a potion-making mini-game that requires mixing various ingredients just right.

Of course, players also get to control Harry as he chases the Golden Snitch during Quidditch matches, and they follow a storyline that includes Ron, Hermione, and Harry's burgeoning romantic lives, as well as the death of a key character.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince sells for US$29.95 and requires Mac OS X version 10.5.5, a 1.8GHz Intel Core Duo processor, 256MB RAM, 128MB video RAM, and 5GB hard disk space.
