iOS 7.0.1 for iPhone 5 and iPhone 5c Hits Ahead of Friday Launch

On the eve before the launch of the brand new iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c Apple rolled out iOS 7.0.1 just for those smartphone models. Neither version of the iPhone will be available to get in your hands until Friday morning, so the update will be waiting for you once you finish handing over your credit card.

Apple isn't saying what the update includes other than, "bug fixes and improvements." For those of us with the iPhone 5 or older, we can only assume that means our smartphones don't have any bugs or need improvements.

iOS 7 hit the Internet Wednesday morning with a redesigned interface that dumps the skeuomorphic elements that are familiar to iPhone and iPad owners, a redesigned Camera app, single swipe access to searches and common system controls, improved multitasking, AirDrop file sharing support, iTunes Radio support, and more.

iOS 7 requires an iPad 2 or newer, an iPhone 4 or newer, or the fifth generation iPod touch, although this update is only for the new phone models set to ship on Friday.

The iOS 7.0.1 update should appear in the over-the-air software update option, or by using the update feature in iTunes 11.1. Since it's available now you should be able to install the update as soon as you get your shiny new iPhone on Friday.
