iOS 4.3.3 Gets Untethered Jailbreak

iPhone, iPod touch and iPad users waiting to upgrade to iOS 4.3.3 until an untethered jailbreak was available are in luck. The iPhone Dev Team released an updated version the redsn0w utility that lets users maintain their jailbreak state on iOS 4.3.3 between reboots without first connecting their device to a computer.

Jailbreaking is a process where users hack their iPhone, iPod touch and iPad so that third-party apps Apple hasn’t approved for App Store distribution can be installed.

The redsn0w 0.9.6rc15 utility supports jailbreaking the GSM-based iPhone 4, the iPhone 3GS, the third and fourth generation iPod touch, the first generation iPad, and the second generation Apple TV.

Apple doesn’t support or condone jailbreaking, so don’t look to the company for help should something go wrong with the hack.

The redsn0w jailbreak utility is available as a free download at the iPhone Dev Team Web site.
