MacBook Pro Firmware Update Fixes Shutdown Problems

Along with a firmware update for the AirPort Base Station and Time Capsule, Apple also released MacBook Pro SMC Firmware Update 1.5 on Thursday. The firmware update addressed an issue where user’s laptops could shut down unexpectedly.

Apple’s release notes state, “This update resolves an issue where a MacBook Pro being used with a power adapter may unexpectedly shut down under heavy workload if the battery charge level is near empty.”

The update requires a MacBook Pro running Mac OS X 10.6.8 or OS X 10.7.2, and is available through the Software Update application or as a downloadable installer at the Apple Support website.
