Version 3.1 represents a departure for PdfCompress by allowing images that are already JPEG compressed to be recompressed at higher compression ratios. Due to the "lossy" nature of the JPEG conversion process, each JPEG compress/decompression cycle degrades image quality further, meaning that repeated applications could completely ruin an image.
In order to avoid this degradation, PdfCompress has a safety that prevents JPEG re-compression cycles. Version 3.1 allows this safety to be disabled, giving useres full control over image quality and compression results.
