Discovery Communications has ordered a documentary on Steve Jobs for October 16th, and the company has hired Mythbusters stars Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman to host it. According to Entertainment Weekly, the one hour show will be titled iGenius: How Steve Jobs Changed the World, and it will air on the network’s flagship cable channel, Discovery.

The show is just one of many mainstream responses to the death of Apple cofounder Steve Jobs, who passed away on October 5th. An October 16th air date means the network will have turned the show around in less than eleven days.

“Someone once said that to follow the path that others have laid before you is a very reasonable course of action, therefore all progress is made by unreasonable men,” Adam Savage said in a statement. “Steve Jobs was an unreasonable man. He didn’t simply give the public what they wanted, he defined entirely new ways of thinking about our lives in the digital space: productivity, creativity, music, communication, media and art. He has touched, directly and indirectly, all of our lives.”

The network also announced that the show will include the following interviews: Homebrew Computer Club founding member Lee Felsenstein, early Apple employee Daniel Kottke, and phone phreaking extraordinaire John Draper (a.k.a. Captain Crunch). The documentary will also include segments with musicians such as Stevie Wonder and Pete Wentz talking about how Apple’s products affected their careers.
