NBC is making its iPhone and iPad app more enticing for at least some TV fans by adding live streaming support, but only in certain markets. Viewers must also have a cable or satellite subscription to watch shows when they air.
NBC adds live streaming to iPhone and iPad apps
Live streaming is available only in regions where NBC has a local affiliate station, so viewers in some parts of the U.S. will be out of luck.
Despite its limitations, the updated NBC app does offer an expanded selection of classic shows with complete seasons and full episodes. That content now includes shows such as The A-Team, Miami Vice, Kojak, Battlestar Galactica, The Incredible Hulk, and Knight Rider—all of which can be watched regardless of whether or not you have a cable subscription.
The NBC app is free and available at Apple's iTunes-based App Store.
