Parallels Desktop 7 Adds Lion Virtualization Support

Parallels introduced Parallels Desktop 7 on Thursday, adding support for virtual Lion machines along with a new Parallels Mobile app for the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. Parallels Desktop lets users install and run additional operating systems and their apps on OS X.

Version 7 also supports Lion’s full screen mode, Mission Control and Launch Pad for Windows applications, and supports Apple’s new FaceTime HD camera, 7.1 surround sound, and lets users purchase Windows from within the application.

The Parallels Mobile app lets users control Windows apps running in Parallels Desktop 6 or 7, and Parallels Desktop 7 also supports remote control for Macs and streaming Flash content from Macs to iOS devices.

Parallels Desktop 7 is priced at US$79.99, or $39.99 for students. It is available as an upgrade today for $49.99, and the full version will ship on September 6.

Parallels Mobile costs $4.99 and is available at Apple’s iTunes-based App Store.
