Rumor Claims MacBook Pro, iMac Update Coming this Week

Apple is reportedly planning on updating the 15-inch MacBook Pro and 27-inch iMac on Wednesday. The new computers are said to include Intel's new Broadwell processors, and the MacBook Pro will ship with the Force Touch trackpad recently introduced on the new MacBook and 13-inch Retina MacBook Pro.

News of the pending updates comes via insider sources speaking with MacGeneration. The site says the details it was able to obtain on the updates are slim. The sources couldn't even say if the iMac update will be for the Retina or non-Retina version.

Shipping times on the 15-inch Retina MacBook Pro are currently delayed. The 2.2GHz model ships in 3-5 days and the 2.5GHz model is showing a 203 week shipping delay, which is common ahead of a product refresh.

Assuming Apple does release new hardware this week, it's likely a move to get the gear in the market ahead of June's Worldwide Developer Conference. The event focuses on software-related announcements, although occasionally has been a platform for hardware releases, too.

Apple isn't saying whether or not new computers are coming this week. For now, we'll have to consider the MacGeneration report as little more than a rumor, and we'll know in a few days if it pans out.
