Your Mac is pretty good at keeping track of which Apple supplied application and operating system updates have been installed, but sometimes itis nice to double-check the list yourself. Mac OS X keeps a log with the date, time, and version number of every Apple update installed on your computer. If you want to see that log, hereis what to do:
- Launch System Preferences. You can find it by choosing Apple menu > System Preferences.
- Select the Software Update Preference Pane.
- Click the Installed Updates tab.

The installed update log can sort your updates, too. Just click the column headers to sort by date, name, or version number. The log is useful if you want to verify that a specific update has been installed, like a Java or security update, without using Terminal and Unix commands. It does not, however, list installed updates for non-Apple applications like Microsoft Office or the Adobe Creative Suite.
