    AdMob Oct stats are out.  Iphone OS is sitting at 50% of the requests WW and 55% in US.  In the UK Apple has 74% of the traffic.

    Those are astonishing stats and should fuel interest among content providers on the Web to develops apps for the iPhone. Smartphone use among the most desirable advertising demographics should continue to rise quickly over the next few years.

    Daniel Eran Dilger on on Roughly Drafted Magazine   has his take on the stats.

    This indicates that actual smartphone use is closely tied to the top four hardware vendors and their respective software platforms, erasing the conventional idea that a large number of significant hardware manufacturers are behind licensed platforms such as Symbian, Android, and Windows Mobile.

    If you’ve played a game on iPhone with AdMob ads in it, you’ll see that a very high percentage of the ads are for other iPhone Apps. Cross billing is a common technique used to boost internet advertising figures: instead of just taking the rather small amounts of money from external demand, it’s better to fill the avaialble capacity with cross advertising on each others properties, cross billing fee amounts that cancel out. Gives the impression of a thriving ad business.

    This is not to say that mobile ads aren’t important, and now that Google has bought Admob, the numbers may become real, but for now they are greatly inflated by cross advertising between iPhone Apps.
