I think it’s an adapter to allow you to use a micro SD card instead of a regular SD. That allows it to have a smaller profile and be flush with the outside edge of your Macbook. An SD card typically protrudes from the side a good bit.
Please pardon my ignorance… it seems the card is plugged into something called an « SD card port ». So why do you need an adapter to plug in an SD card?
