4 Cool iOS 8 Photo Extension Apps

iOS 8 opened the door for developers to share features with other apps and one place that really shines is Photos. Developers are updating their apps to take advantage of iOS 8's new Extensions feature, and we put together a list of some of our early favorites for working with your photos.

Camera+ Fine-tuned camera control has been a mainstay of Camera+ for a long time, and with iOS 8 now available its filters are available in Apple's Photos app. The filters are designed to improve your photo quality and create special effects. It offers presets for portraits, food shots, sunset, night, and more. Camera+ is priced at US$1.99 and includes in-app purchases for special effects packs.

Paper Camera Photo filters don't have to be limited to sepia, black and white, or retro Polaroid styles, and Paper Camera shows that in a fun way. This app converts your photos into comic-style art, sketches, halftones, noir, and more. New filters are available to app subscribers ($0.99 a month) and you can make in-app purchases for additional controls, a video importer, and watermark removal. Paper Camera is free.

Metapho Every time you snap a photo with your iPhone you're capturing more than a moment in time. Your photos also include information about when and where they were taken, camera type, and camera settings. Metapho lets you view that data and even remove it if you need to add an extra layer of privacy before sharing photos online. Metapho is free and the removing metadata feature is a US$1.99 in-app purchase.

Photo Investigator Like Metapho, Photo Investigator shows the metadata included with photos, although its extension works outside of Apple's Photos app. Instead, it shows up in other apps where you can view images such as Messages and Mail. You can view and delete image metadata, too. Photo Investigator is free, and offers US$0.99 in-app purchases for removing ads and adding metadata removal.
